Geelong Summer Music Camp Success

The Geelong Summer Music Camp celebrated its 40th year with an amazing finale concert at Costa Hall. Two hundred and sixty students along with 40 staff took to the stage and showcased their week’s work alongside Australian music legend, James Morrison.

It was a holiday highlight for many and a musical start to the year. Congratulations to all those involved.

Gershwin with the GSO

I will be performing with the Geelong Symphony Orchestra some of the most iconic orchestral works with the saxophone: Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and An American in Paris.

It has been fascinating rediscovering these works, particularly with the (relatively) recent unabridged version of  An American in Paris which features a soprano saxophone trio and the correct pitching of the taxi horns.

Rhapsody in Blue was one of the earliest works I studied and it will be a delight to perform it again. You can watch a fascinating interview with Timothy McAllister discussing the orchestral saxophone and Gershwin at The Gershwin Initiative.

7:30pm Saturday October 26th
Costa Hall, Geelong

5pm Sunday October 27th
Melbourne Recital Centre

Tickets available at the GSO website.
