Each year aMuse organises a VCE conference looking at Music Investigation, Music Performance and Music Style and Composition. I will be presenting a teaching strategy workshop on ‘The things I wish I knew when I started teaching my first VCE instrumental student’.
This workshop is tailored towards instrumental music teachers who will be preparing students for solo exams in music performance. A practical guide for new instrumental music teachers at the VCE level, as well as strategies and new approaches for more experienced teachers. Areas of learning covered include the technical SAC (outcome 2), the final performance (outcome 1) and maintaining your sanity throughout the year. It draws upon 10 years experience teaching VCE students and five years as a specialist assessor for music performance.
